The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Lisbeth Salander of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Just read the book and loved it. Though I drew her much too tall.

I also drew a few more things because I've barely drawn anything (with analog media) the past month. I've gotten pretty bad and apparently forgot about anatomy.

Midori from Norwegian Wood I guess. Still haven't gotten around to watching the film though the book was p great.

Some inking. The After Pope thing is a cover of Paul Pope drawing.

And some more junk.

Patina

Patina, mixed media on watercolor paper, some Photoshop

This was a piece I contributed to the Weavver Gallery for the last Fullerton Art Walk. There are a number of things I would change if I could.

Picture Journal: December 7, 2011 (L.A. Jazz/My Birthday)

And just so I don't seem like a total loner, I did eat with friends and family at the following places in the following days: Lola Gaspar in Santa Ana, Mitasie 3 in Huntington Beach, and Full Moon Sushi in Costa Mesa. All were tres bien.

New York Journal: Day 0/1 (New York Minute)

Oh please do not read all of this there is too much junk. But I'd like it if you did!

Picture Journal: October 29, 2011 (6 of 6:The Cricket Finale)

Is there ever a true victory when crickets are involved? The final chapter.

Part one: I Kill Crickets
Part two: A Cricket Lives
Part three: The Boss Cricket
Part four: First Cricket Blood
Part five: A Deal is Made Regarding Crickets

That wraps up my month and a half long dramatized melodrama Cricket Saga, thanks for reading. If you squint real hard you might see a cricket in that last panel. But it may just be my imagination. The next picture journals are going to be a little different since they'll be about my trip to New York City and I won't have all the tools to make comics on hand.

Oh and if you haven't read it, here's my comic short story: 'Pothole'

Picture Journal: September 30, 2011 (4 of 6: First Cricket Blood)

So green in those days. Naivete is a luxury few cherish. Part four.

Part one
Part two
Part three

I also drew a picture while I was inking this! See it after the break.

Picture Journal: September 23, 2011 (3 of 6: The Boss Cricket)

Are there any real endbosses to fear or is it nothing more than an adolescent power fantasy? Part three.

Part one
Part two

This is my first two page spread and there are twenty-eight panels between the two. I'm kind of proud of the fact that I was able to get so many panels in but it was pretty annoying to ink.

Picture Journal: September 20, 2011 (2 of 6: A Cricket Lives)

The birth of a sociopath? The lack of awareness. Part two.

Part one

After completing this I realized that it is very much like a scene in Kill Bill and a number of works of fiction/faction. How coincidental.

Picture Journal: September 2, 2011 (Meeting James Jean)

In honor of the release of James Jean's monogram, Rebus, a comic about meeting him. Definitely one of my more experimental comics. I pretty much brought ALL of the books he'd released (and I collected) over the years (Process Recess 1 having been acquired six or so years ago). A lot of time seemingly elapses within the four panels and the reason why is just after the jump.

Picture Journal: August 24, 2011 (Barbecue Bonanza)

After nearly a month I finally have the motivation to start these again. The BBBQ was pretty ballin'. Next up is Lobster Fest!

Here's what I spent the weekend doing.

Mild adjustments with Photoshop and I'm working on getting a big ol' awesome scanner

Picture Journal: July 25, 2011 (The 2011 Comic-Con Special)

All the important details in six panels. Here are some photos. I forgot to take pictures of the actual con.

Picture Journal: July 16, 2011 (Little Tokyo Design Week, with photos and free swag to give away!)

A little bare bones today I know, but it's just because there was so much to do and see, I had to compress like a motherbitch.

Photos after the jump!

Picture Journal: July 11, 2011 (Sherlock Holmes - The Murder of John Watson)

The dream referenced was more interesting than this one I think, but I can't remember too well. In this Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Watson was portrayed by Matt Smith of Doctor Who fame. I haven't actually seen any episodes of the current Doctor Who unfortunately.

Picture Journal: July 6, 2011 (Independence Day Memories)

This is how I celebrate my independence. There's a reference to some movie or skit or something in that first panel.

I've been spending most of my time sketch-booking and reading so to make up for the less frequent updates (not that many of you care) here are some self-aggrandizing pictures of my room.

Picture Journal: July 2, 2011 (Near-Violence at the Gym)

The gym is a potentially dangerous place it'd seem. It's the testosterone. And occasionally the roids.
