Picture Journal: September 21, 2012 (End of the Summer Daze)

Click for big.

Summer for me was actually a bit longer than just this summer (though I only included sequences from this year) and I think it's finally time to say g'bye. But what a great summer it was. The best in years I think. Good times, bad times, the whole thing. No regrets. Probably one I'm forgetting. Thanks to everyone involved--friends, family, coworkers, strangers, whatevs.

The colors don't have any sort of deep meaning, they were just inspired by this Post-It note comic I made:

I'm going to make some more comics.

Picture Journal: September 8, 2012 (Summer Shorts #1)

How easily sidetracked we are~ The first in a maybe two or more part series of shorts. This actually has  a few duality and oxymoronic jokes cuz that's how I roll

Picture Journal: September 6, 2012 (Salton Sea)

It was also pretty damn hot! Turns out after 102 degrees Fahrenheit all heat is the same. My only regret is that we probably missed out on some religious experience. Some of the text is a nod to the people who went on this desert trip with me.

This also happens to be my hundredth blog post! Though I think some shouldn't count.

Picture Journal: August 14, 2012 (SCCC '12 recap)

I'll admit this is a little sloppy. Not practicing comic-making has led to a decline in. Learn from my example!

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Thirty - Something you'd like to share with your friends

Okay I actually stole that final line from one of my favorite comics. Anyway, thanks for following along I think y'all are swell. Technically I missed three days (because of Comic-Con) but you know what they say about San Diego. Also feel free to click on the label below to browse some of the other things I did for this challenge.

A note for comickers: In the first panel I let the word balloon go off the page which is a big no-no (off the panel is okay tho). LEARN FROM MY EXAMPLE

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Twenty-Eight - A room

So a piece of my room. Yeah I know not a "room" but it's not like you can draw an entire room in a single shot anyway. I originally intended to draw more of the guitar but forgot and then it was too late

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Twenty - A comic

Just an idea I had some weeks ago. Thought it'd be a good chance to try a new color palate.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Eighteen - A couple (any two people)

This one is kinda weird for a few reasons. Mostly though it's because I usually don't draw in pencil and avoid realism. Ah well. A fan pairing for a possible slash fic starring real people!

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Sixteen - Something that represents your favorite song

The song is Sound and Vision by David Bowie. Actually it isn't my favorite song (not even my favorite Bowie one) but I just had this idea and wanted to draw it.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Fifteen - Someone from your favorite board or video game

Alright, half-way through! My favorite video game of all time is Super Mario Galaxy so here's Bowser. This was one of my quickest sketches, taking just a little over an hour (which I knew because I was listening to an episode of This American Life).

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Fourteen - Your favorite book character

Alice! A very curious child indeed. She doesn't actually use the Vorpal Sword in the book but I wanted her to hold something.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Thirteen - A group picture

Some characters physically representing their respective house sigils. Didn't have a lot of time so just a quick job

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Eleven - Your favorite food

Just a quick one since I'm exhausted, it's Fourth of July, been spending a little too much time on these lately. Incidentally a year ago I did a picture journal about donuts

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Ten - Something you couldn't live without

Originally I was just going to draw the lungs and some veiny arms but I then I just kind of went with it. Another bad scan. I swear I'll invest in a sweet scanner someday.

Here's an inverted version for kicks:

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Nine - Your favorite cartoon/anime character

Follow me on tumblr now! Thanks

I drew Korra of course. I drew her doing on Old Style Muay Thai elbow strike (TIGER ELBOW). Spent kind of a long time on this. Wish I had done a background.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Eight - Something with your favorite color

Well it's the color I prefer at the moment. I think my favorite color is more of a Burnt Devil's Ruby Wine

Sunday, July 1, 2012

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Seven - Your family or a family member

I drew my brother. This one has been the most relaxing one I've done. I just let the pen and prush move on its own.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Six - Something you've never drawn before

Ugh I swear the original looks better. My scanner just sucks at scanning color and graphite simultaneously it seems. This is a leafy sea dragon. They are pretty fascinating to look at. Combines my fondness for drawing dragon-like creatures and flora.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Five - Your favorite outfit

Actually I've never worn this particular outfit (and I don't own a shirt like the one pictured, just one similar) but I like to think I'd rock it okay. This one took me a whoppin' four plus hours for what I thought would be a quick job

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Four - An animal you think is really cute

This was actually my fifth or sixth attempt at this because animals are difficult to draw, It's a red panda by the way

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Three - One, some, or all of your friends

Kind of mixing it up here since I've never done an info-graphic-type thing I suppose and wanted to do something not so grimy. This actually took longer than the other two (combined possibly).

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day Two - Someone you like

I could have drawn my crush but that would have been too embarrassing ~blush~. So I drew one of my favorite acts (though actually I haven't seen him live soooo). A man who exhales smoke and glass. Some more quick color experimentation.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day One - Yourself or your persona

Haven't done anything all month so I'm doing the 30 Day Drawing Challenge. Originally just ink but I decided to play with some colors.

Picture Journal: May 23, 2012 (Learning Wine)

This one is a little eclectic so sorry if it went over anybody's head. Been learning wine in my attempt to open up my palate (briefly alluded to here). It's pretty damn taxing! So much to learn. So expensive. But so tasty. Or maybe I did this just to slyly tell you all about how cut I'm gettin' *flex*.

Haven't been doing too many comics lately mainly because I've been a little burnt out since finishing my Creme Puff Afternoon short story. Also I've been reading/examining books like a madman to catch up with my back catalogue.

Creme Puff Afternoon

A young woman is looking to buy creme puffs but the only man who has them won't sell. What's his deal!? A short story. Read more!

Picture Journal: March 10, 2012 (MOEBIUS)

I actually didn't even want to include myself in this but it is a journal after all. The flying character is Arzach, Moebius' most famous creation.

Picture Journal: March 8, 2012 (Pawn Shop Tales: A Persistent Man)

Sometimes at work you'll meet customers who just don't give up. Occasionally when customers rage they'll storm out and forget you need to touch the handle to open the door. This guy just kept embarrassing himself and I felt like I should have mercied him.

Picture Journal: February 26, 2012 (Fasting and Porn)

To lose some excess fat I'm trying out a new diet. I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit. I don't have to think about eating or preparing food as often. But I have found that I am spending a ridiculous amount of time thinking about food, even though I didn't before. foodgawker is part of the reason for that. I've also been trying to learn more about cooking. Gettin better!

Moleskine Chicas

Here are a couple of things I drew in a couple of nights. Been a few months since I felt that creamy touch of a Moleskine Journal. It was mostly just experimenting.

Picture Journal: February 13, 2012 (Weight for the Drop)

The clashing of metal on metal truly is soul-crushing. I've failed deadlifts and benches as well, but a squat failure just feels so super shitty.

The pun in the title refers to the bass drop in electronic music, following a totally sweet build-up.

DRIVE Fan Art

Follow me on tumblr now! Thanks

Ink and watercolor on watercolor paper, Digital

Another character with a distinctive jacket since I've been thinking about distinctive jackets lately. I saw DRIVE for the first time recently and it blew me away for serious. Wish I had drawn the car bigger, but I thought it wouldn't be recognizable since a lot of it would have been cropped off. Originally I was going to use the actual colors of the movie but I just liked the watercolors so much I stuck with it. Here's the original:

A REAL HUMAN BEING, AND A REAL HUMAN HERO

Shank

Watercolor, Acrylic on Watercolor paper

Here is a poorly lit but slightly retouched image of my contribution to the latest Weavver Gallery show, "Pairings".  Below are some detail shots because why not. There's a noticeable shift in color around the breast area/body of lamb on the first two images but not in the third image. That's because I can't properly light an image for shit and that's why I'm not a photographer (yet).
